Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird, it's a plane, it's... The Encounter, the newest sculpture by German artist Hubertus von der Goltz, recently installed atop the Maple Avenue Garage.

The Encounter features two figures delicately balancing and moving toward each other. The sculpture symbolizes the coming together of people from different cultures and walks of life just as the public below will encounter each other on the sidewalks of Evanston as they head for work, shop, take in a movie or go to dinner.

Join the artist for a dedication of the work at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, December 18. Attendees will gather in the heated elevator lobby on the top (sixth) floor at the garage, 1800 Maple Avenue. The event is free and open to the public, so stop by!
